No-Self Portraits

This series attempts to deny the self in the self portrait. It is inspired by the Buddhist idea of anattā (meaning no-self) and responds to the myriad of beliefs, representations, and radically conflicting claims about the nature of the self in history, culture, and art, which together, create much more confusion about the nature of the self than they do clarity. In creating this series, I grappled with one of life's fundamental questions: Who Am I?

The self is not absolute, but merely an abstract concept. Through re-imagining our embodiment and distorting photographic reality, we can challenge traditional notions of self-portraiture and self-hood.
